If you have never touched a fly rod before, or if you have some experience but want to learn more about fly fishing, this class is for you.  The class is informal, fun and class size is limited to 8.  We will have both classroom and On-stream instruction.  No equipment is needed.

Classes are held on four Saturday Mornings at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation and are co-sponsored by the Westchester County Parks.  The location is perfect since we can move straight from the classroom to the stream.

We cover all the basics of fly fishing in a personal way that is hard to get from books or youtube videos.  Click the link below for a full class description.

The School consists of  four Saturday morning classes from 8:30 to 12:00.  The classes are held at the visitor center at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.  Class dates are  April 13, 20, May 4, 11.  Class size is limited to 8.  You must be over 18.  Fee for the class is $150.  All proceeds go to the conservation and education programs of the Croton Watershed Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

You don’t need equipment—While you probably want to dash out and start buying equipment, we recommend that you stop and wait. There is no need to rush into anything. The classes will review equipment options. By waiting, we believe you will make a better long term decision. Keep in mind that the Chapter can supply rods and reels during the class so you can try before you buy.  But if you have a rod and reel, bring them to the class.

 

You need a New York State Fishing License and a New York City Department of Environmental Protection Access Permit to fish.  They can be obtained online.
